Washington, D.C. — Upon learning of the murders of five law enforcement officers in Dallas, Center for American Progress President and CEO Neera Tanden issued the following statement:
Today, America woke up to yet another devastating act of gun violence. The coordinated assassination of law enforcement officers in Dallas last night is deplorable. These police officers lost their lives protecting their community, and their deaths remind us of the risks police officers face every day they go to work. And while the police were running toward the gunfire to protect the protestors, many protesters were in turn helping the police find the gunmen. This senseless violence against police officers leaves our communities, families, and children shaken. As we continue to learn more facts and information about the assailants, we must remain vigilant in calls for peace. Our hearts and prayers are with the Dallas Police Department and their families.
