STATEMENT: CAP’s Neera Tanden on Congressional Baseball Practice Shooting in Alexandria, Virginia

Washington, D.C. — Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement today following the shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

The shooting at a congressional baseball practice was yet another senseless act of gun violence—an act that is far too common in our country, and one that we must address as a nation. All of us at the Center for American Progress send hope for a speedy recovery for those affected by this horrific incident, including Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), U.S. Capitol police officers, and congressional staff. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police and first responders, whose bravery and quick thinking was on full display today.
