STATEMENT: CAP’s Neera Tanden Praises Cecile Richards for More Than a Decade of Commitment to Women’s Rights While at Planned Parenthood

Washington, D.C. — Cecile Richards, after serving as the president of Planned Parenthood for more than a decade, has announced she will step down. Neera Tanden, president and CEO at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement on the decision:

Cecile has been a tireless advocate for the policies that women and working families need in order to have a fair shot at getting ahead, not just getting by. She has been exactly who you want as a partner—strong, compassionate, relentless, and resilient. She has fought tirelessly to improve women’s access to abortion and health care, and she knows that economic stability, health, and overall well-being are critical to women’s empowerment. While she is moving on to the next stage, I know she will continue to lead the fight for women’s rights.
