Lauren Vicary is a Senior Vice President in the Communications and Strategy department at American Progress.

During her tenure with American Progress, Vicary has shepherded numerous organization-wide priorities, including as editorial lead and project manager for the “Report of the Commission on Inclusive Prosperity,” a multinational project highlighting progressive institutions and policies globally; The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Pushes Back from the Brink, a book and multimedia platform detailing the profound change in the makeup of American families; and “The Middle-Class Squeeze,” a report outlining policies critical to a strong and growing economy.

A 20-year veteran of political journalism and newsroom management, Vicary launched numerous digital properties and partnerships for news organizations before joining the senior leadership team at American Progress. She was the managing editor of politics for Bloomberg News’ digital, where she developed and launched the politics and elections websites. She also spent several years with Microsoft/NBC and AOL, including at msnbc.com, where she built partnerships with dozens of news organizations, launched their political website, and broke traffic records during the 2008 election cycle.

Vicary began her Washington, D.C., news career at the Associated Press, where she spent nearly a decade as a reporter, assignment manager, and lead political producer, and was instrumental in the launch of the AP’s digital operations in Washington. Vicary was also a reporter for ABC and CBS affiliates, and a program director at both PBS and Time-Life.

A native of Erie and State College, Pennsylvania, Vicary holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
