Washington, D.C. — Yesterday evening, President Donald Trump signed an executive order attempting to dismantle disparate impact discrimination protections. In response, Dr. Mariam Rashid, associate director of Racial Equity and Justice at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This executive order is yet another policy straight from the Project 2025 playbook. Disparate impact protections are a core tenet of our civil rights laws that help ensure everyone is shielded from discrimination, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, and more. Trump is attempting to strip away these vital tools, but the law is clear: An executive order can’t single-handedly dismantle settled civil rights code.
Still, the Trump administration appears to be looking for ways to circumvent discrimination protections instead of actually passing policies that support Americans’ safety and well-being.
