Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s effort to freeze roughly $2 billion in foreign aid. The justices refused to halt a lower court ruling that requires the administration to pay contractors who did work for the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. In response, Allison McManus, managing director for National Security and International Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
The Supreme Court’s decision is a clear rebuke to the Trump administration and its unlawful refusal to release lifesaving foreign aid that has been authorized by Congress. Every day the administration fails to comply with the district court’s order devastates tens of thousands of Americans across the country who have lost their livelihoods. And all around the world, millions of the most vulnerable people will die because President Donald Trump and Elon Musk decided to end these cost-effective programs on a whim.
