Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that former President Donald Trump does not have immunity from being prosecuted for crimes he may have committed while in office. In response, Devon Ombres, senior director for Courts and Legal Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This ruling confirms that Donald Trump is no different than any other American accused of a crime—he must be held accountable and will have his day in court. The Supreme Court should let this ruling stand and avoid any further delay in prosecuting Trump for his actions relating to the Jan. 6 insurrection. If the justices do take up the case, they should do so on an expedited basis. No one is above the law—not even a former president.
