STATEMENT: President Biden’s Budget Offers Sharp Contrast to the MAGA Extremist Agenda

Washington, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden released his fiscal year 2024 budget proposal. Following the release, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

The president’s budget proposal offers a road map to lower the cost of living, help families make ends meet, and make billionaires pay their fair share. It reaffirms that an investment in the American people yields enormous economic opportunity, such as preserving Medicare for the next generation and lowering the costs of life’s biggest expenses. With this proposal, President Biden is putting to rest MAGA extremists’ false claim that we have to choose between cutting the deficit and investing in the American people’s economic future.

The Biden administration’s track record, and this plan, proves MAGA extremists wrong—we can do both. The president has created 12 million jobs, incentivized a surge in private sector investment, slashed the deficit in 2022 by more than a trillion dollars, and given the American people greater security by controlling the runaway cost of prescription drugs and working to lower the costs of gas and groceries. This budget would further investments in the American people while putting the country on a more responsible fiscal path.

His agenda stands in stark contrast to MAGA extremists’ agenda, which is centered on gambling with millions of Americans’ access to health and financial security by making devastating cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. While conservatives in Congress are determined to make it harder for Americans to make ends meet, President Biden’s budget is built to put Americans’ minds at ease.
