Washington, D.C. — Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) died today. Following the news of her passing, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
Dianne Feinstein saved lives. Plain and simple. From her earliest work as a pioneer in criminal justice reform, to her early and forceful advocacy for AIDS patients, to her leadership in the passage of the federal assault weapons ban, few have had such an impact in every facet of public service, at the local, municipal, and federal levels.
Her crusade against the CIA’s detention and interrogation program was a high-water mark of integrity in the Senate.
We send condolences to her family, especially her daughter Katherine, her colleagues, her staff, and the people of California.
