Washington, D.C. — Today, the Senate passed the bipartisan Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act, sending the measure for consideration in the House. In response, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Today’s vote shows that Democrats can work across the aisle to deliver results for the American people. By making substantial investments in the U.S. semiconductor industry, the CHIPS Act will improve supply chains, create or sustain millions of jobs, and strengthen our national security. It will make the United States less reliant on anti-democratic countries and more resilient in the face of global uncertainties. At the same time, the CHIPS Act will accelerate our transition toward a clean energy future. The Senate should be commended for tackling this critical issue head-on, and we look forward to the House quickly sending this bill to the president’s desk.
