STATEMENT: CAP’s Winnie Stachelberg on President’s Condemnation of Persecution of LGBT Community
Washington, D.C. — Center for American Progress Executive Vice President for External Affairs, Winnie Stachelberg, issued the following statement after President Barack Obama condemned the persecution of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, or LGBT, community in the State of the Union address.
The president’s historic inclusion of bisexual and transgender Americans in tonight’s speech is a reminder of how far we have come as a community and a country. We are ready to build on the progress that the president spoke of and to work to make the vision of a more just and equal America a reality.
