STATEMENT: CAP’s Patrick Gaspard Congratulates John Podesta on His Appointment To Oversee Climate Investments for the Biden Administration

Washington, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden announced that John Podesta, founder and chairman of the board at the Center for American Progress, will oversee the Biden administration’s climate investments. Following the announcement, CAP President and CEO Patrick Gaspard released the following statement:

I can think of no one more dedicated to stopping climate change than John Podesta. We are at a historic juncture for the future of humanity, both because we may be reaching the point of no return on global warming and because Congress and President Biden just made the largest investment in stopping climate change in American history. The true power of any legislation lies not with the words on a paper but with the impact it has on people’s lives. I can think of no one better than John to take the climate provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act from legislative text to reality. He brings a huge wealth of experience, working in the White House, overseeing climate change and energy policy during the Obama administration, in the climate advocacy movement, and, of course, as founder of CAP.

On a personal note, all of us at CAP will miss John’s guidance, his humility, and his willingness to roll up his sleeves to do the hard, often unglamorous, work in fighting for progress. But we’re proud to support him as he makes sure that these historic investments turn from a legislative victory into tangible investments in the future of humanity.
