STATEMENT: CAP’s Patrick Gaspard Applauds House Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

Washington, D.C. — Today, the House passed the Inflation Reduction Act. Following the vote, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:

Today, House Democrats stood up to lobbyists, Big Pharma, and Big Oil to vote for cleaner air, more affordable health care and prescription drugs, and to stop wealthy tax cheats from gaming the U.S. tax system. Not one House Republican was willing to do the same.

Today’s historic accomplishment would not have been possible without the tremendous leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who kept her caucus united and focused on what they could deliver for the American people. And while I look forward to watching the president sign this historic bill soon, what is most exciting is the transformative impact it will have on millions of people, the economy, and the planet. With the American Rescue Plan, the bipartisan infrastructure law, the Chips and Science Act and now, the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden and his allies in Congress are delivering a shot of hope for the American people who have lost confidence in government’s ability to solve problems and do big things. The Inflation Reduction Act is a reminder that when government is in the right hands, America can shape the future like no other force on earth.
