STATEMENT: CAP’s Mike Williams Praises Project Labor Agreement for Offshore Wind Energy

Washington, D.C. — Today, Ørsted, the U.S. leader in offshore wind energy, and North America’s Building Trades Unions are signing a first-of-its-kind project labor agreement to employ American workers at offshore wind projects from Maine to Florida. In response, Mike Williams, senior fellow in the Energy and Environment department at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

This agreement is a big win for both the fight against climate change and the Biden administration’s push to boost American jobs. It’s another example of how the transition to a clean energy economy is helping create good-paying union jobs for American workers. It comes on the heels of the largest offshore wind lease sale in American history and other upgrades to transmission lines to prepare the grid for using clean energy. Our clean energy future can and must be built by good-paying union jobs here at home; today’s exciting announcement spotlights just how that’s done.
