STATEMENT: CAP’s Mara Rudman Praises Choice of McDonough for Secretary of Veterans Affairs

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Biden transition team announced that Denis McDonough would be nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In response, Mara Rudman, executive vice president for policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Denis McDonough represents the epitome of dedicated public service and will bring extraordinary leadership and management skills to the VA. His deep experience navigating the White House, Congress, and federal agencies make him a savvy advocate for our nation’s veterans. Having worked with McDonough on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, and as a colleague at CAP, I know he is a shrewd policy innovator and a tireless advocate for progressive values at home and abroad. His reputation as an effective leader and manager makes him an ideal fit to bring solutions to the challenges confronting those who have served their country.
