Washington, D.C. — Today, the Biden administration announced the creation of a presidential commission to study Supreme Court reform. In response, Maggie Jo Buchanan, director of Legal Progress at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
The official launch of the administration’s commission is welcome news. It is critical that a wide range of reforms be considered to modernize the U.S. Supreme Court and put it more in touch with the American people and the needs of the administration of justice. The Supreme Court must not be an all-powerful force removed from the realities of modern life and everyday people. The new commission is a critical step toward that goal and is a welcome counterpart to discussions now taking place about expanding the lower courts.
