STATEMENT: CAP’s Christy Goldfuss Praises Rule To Strengthen NEPA Review

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Biden administration published the Phase 1 final rule to help strengthen the environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act. In response, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president for Energy and Environment at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

This is a critical first step in rolling back changes made under the previous administration that undermined public input and scientific integrity. The Trump infrastructure regulations also ignored the climate and environmental justice impacts of federal projects and confused agencies and project advocates alike by making the process unclear. Now, it’s time to urgently move to the next phase in restoring protections for the environmental review process. That means making sure the process is clear, effective, and inclusive so that President Biden’s planned buildout of clean energy capacity can continue smoothly.
