Washington, D.C. — In response to the House Energy and Commerce Committee markup of the Build Back Better Act, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president for Energy and Environment Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
Today, Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and the Energy and Commerce Committee moved a blueprint forward for a clean energy economy, stable climate, and safe and livable planet. This groundbreaking bill contains win after win for the American people: environmental and climate justice block grants to reduce pollution and climate threats in communities, a payment program to speed the adoption of clean energy, funds for healthy ports, clean heavy duty vehicles, solar power for low-income communities, and investments in zero-emission homes. This year has brought devastating wildfires, deadly heat waves, and destructive hurricanes on multiple coasts. We cannot afford to fail the climate test or delay any longer. The time to act is now.
