Washington, D.C. — Today, President-elect Joe Biden unveiled his comprehensive plan to develop, distribute, and administer COVID-19 vaccines as quickly and efficiently as possible. A cornerstone of the plan is using federal resources to stand up community vaccination clinics. Maura Calsyn, managing director of Health Policy at CAP, released the following statement on the plan:
We can’t have an economic recovery or turn the page on the pandemic until we achieve widespread vaccination and have sufficient testing capacity, which is why we need to use every tool at our disposal to achieve that goal as quickly as possible. The president-elect’s plan would substantially increase federal support for vaccine development and distribution, expand the public health workforce, target resources to underserved communities, and launch a major public awareness effort to educate the public about the importance of getting vaccinated. It signals a sharp departure from the Trump administration’s fend-for-yourself approach to helping states navigate this unprecedented effort.
