Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress released a new analysis on the fallout of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
The column examines the continued need for abortion care in the United States, including what policymakers should do to ensure women can continue to access the reproductive health care that they need; how current and future state abortion restrictions will sow confusion and make it harder for patients to access care; and the threat that the court’s decision poses to other rights rooted in privacy.
“The Supreme Court’s decision to upend the laws and traditions that a majority of Americans have known their entire lives is radical, un-American, and—like the infamous Dred Scott case—cannot stand. We must remain vigilant in the face of this unprecedented assault on our freedom,” said Maggie Jo Buchanan, senior director of the Women’s Initiative at CAP.
