Washington, D.C. – The far-right policy proposals in Project 2025 will fundamentally undermine the national and economic security of the United States, benefiting its adversaries and making all Americans less safe, according to a new analysis from the Center for American Progress.
The plan includes a vision for the “common defense” that would place the United States in direct confrontation with its adversaries and prioritize military action over a thoughtful national security strategy. The plan would:
- Gut the agencies protecting Americans against foreign threats by staffing key agencies with partisan operatives.
- Eliminate the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other agencies, undermining public safety.
- Pull back U.S. support for NATO, which would only encourage more Russian aggression.
- Exacerbate conflict with China.
- Increase the risk of nuclear war by expanding nuclear weapons programs.
- Abdicate the nation’s global climate leadership by pulling the United States out of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
- Damage the United States’ ability to address global threats by politicizing support for proven global health programs.
“Project 2025 would embolden our adversaries, jeopardize our national security, and increase the risk of conflict, instability, and crisis,” said Alan Yu, senior vice president for National Security and International Policy at CAP and co-author of the analysis. “It would undermine our historic alliances, leading to confusion and mistrust wordwide.”
