Washington, D.C. — BlueOval City, the electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing facility under construction in Stanton, Tennessee, is one of the many private projects spurred by the Biden administration’s economic policies that are creating good union jobs and promoting development in regions of the country that have long been ignored. A new Center for American Progress report dives into how the construction of BlueOval has shown early signs of success in spurring economic development. This report also includes interviews conducted by CAP that offer a glimpse at how workers are feeling about the plant as well as offers insights into what needs to be done to help workers understand the connection between these jobs and the Biden administration’s economic policies.
The project has already hired thousands of workers under a project labor agreement that ensures union-scale wages and benefits and promotes apprenticeships. Through interviews with workers, this report offers insights into how the new union jobs have been life-changing, allowing workers to keep up with their bills, spend time with their children, and buy homes.
The report also explains that the Biden administration must do more to help people understand the connection between the projects and underlying policies by working alongside private companies and unions to spread awareness of the impact of these jobs and continuing to support unions to strengthen good-paying and high-quality jobs for workers.
“BlueOval City is one of the many Biden administration-supported projects that are creating life-changing union jobs that are lifting workers into the middle class,” said David Madland, senior fellow at CAP and co-author of the report.
