Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress issued a new policy requiring its staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This policy follows an announcement by President Joe Biden that, as part of his pandemic response plan, all federal employees will soon be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
CAP’s new policy was communicated to staff in in an e-mail from President and CEO Patrick Gaspard. In the e-mail, Gaspard wrote:
As there are still 80 million vaccine eligible Americans who have not yet elected to receive them, this mandate is critical to accelerate levels of compliance needed for national recovery.
CAP must do its part to advance this program at a moment when both private and public concerns must be aligned. In light of this, CAP will be requiring full vaccination against COVID-19 for every member of this staff as we return to in place work.
CAP’s new policy was developed in consultation with its return-to-the-office advisory committee, consisting of staff that includes leading public health experts and its union. The policy will allow employees to request an exemption as a reasonable accommodation for sincerely held religious beliefs and/or an underlying medical condition.
