Washington, D.C. — On Monday, October 24, the Center for American Progress will welcome Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning choreographer, director, producer, and writer Debbie Allen, along with a host of community leaders and change-makers, for a panel tackling race, violence, and access to the American dream. Ahead of the opening weekend for “Freeze Frame…Stop the Madness”—a multimedia dance, music, and theater production—Allen will speak to attendees about how she used the lens of the arts to help audiences examine the complex issues of gun violence, poverty, race relations, and criminal justice.
The panel of community leaders will explore the real-life stories, advocacy, and efforts that inspire productions like “Freeze Frame…Stop the Madness,” as well as policy recommendations that can help create change. The panel will be moderated by Washington Post opinion writer Jonathan Capehart and will feature Lucia McBath from Everytown for Gun Safety, Layla Zaidane from Generation Progress, Jose Osuna from Homeboy Industries, and Dejuan Patterson from the BeMore Group.
