AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT: Topher Spiro and David Cutler on New Estimates Showing House Repeal Bill Would Raise Average Consumer Costs

Washington, D.C. — Health care policy experts Topher Spiro and David Cutler are available to discuss the GOP’s Affordable Care Act replacement bill that will revoke health care for millions of Americans and raise costs for millions more. Spiro, the Vice President for Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, and Cutler, the Otto Eckstein Professor of Applied Economics at Harvard University, recently co-authored an analysis of the bill being marked up by House committees today and found that this bill will cost the average ACA enrollee more than $1,500 per year when it takes effect and more than $2,400 per year by 2020. The impact would be even more severe for older Americans and low-income Americans.
