ADVISORY: Women’s Health and Legal Experts to Discuss Court’s Impact on Women’s Rights and Health

Washington, D.C. — On Friday, October 5 a panel of women’s health and legal experts will join Legal Progress and the Women’s Health and Rights Program for a conversation on why courts matter emphasizing how upcoming court decisions could impact woman’s health and rights. Panelists will address what’s at stake in the courts and the judicial nominations process for the women’s rights community, the long-term implications of pending legal challenges, and how to enlist public support for safeguarding our courts and protecting women’s rights.

Recent court cases on abortion restrictions, challenges to birth control coverage and family planning funding, and workplace discrimination have proved that judges remain critical to protecting women’s rights. While the rights under attack most immediately affect women, the legal ramifications of the “War on Women” are far broader. Upcoming court decisions could have potentially devastating and precedent-setting, long-term effects on many issues about which progressives care.
