Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, July 2, the Center for American Progress will host legal and policy experts to discuss the implications of the Supreme Court’s recent decisions and to unveil a new campaign focused on educating the public about why courts matter and the impacts of the judicial vacancy crisis.
On the heels of last year’s decision upholding the Affordable Care Act, the conclusion of the 2012-13 Supreme Court term brings more major decisions, this year on several foundational issues for our democracy: voting rights, marriage equality, diversity in education, and several new decisions about the scope of corporate power over the consumer in modern America. At the event, the panel of experts will put the Supreme Court’s record on civil rights and corporate rights into context and discuss what the decisions mean for the progressive community moving forward.
