ADVISORY: From Foreclosure to Fair Lending: The Pursuit of Equitable Credit
Press Advisory

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, November 21, the Center for American Progress will host a discussion on unethical discrimination in the U.S. housing market. Widespread discriminatory and unethical lending was a major contributor to the collapse of the U.S. housing market and the subsequent loss of more than 4 million homes due to foreclosure. In this forum, panelists will explore the current state of housing discrimination, segregation, and integration in the United States.

Topics to be covered include the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s, or HUD’s, proposed Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule; the possible effects of HUD’s new disparate-impact rule on patterns of segregation; the possibility of tension between the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s, or CFPB’s, new Qualified Mortgage rule and fair lending; and the next steps for promoting housing markets that are free of discrimination.
