Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress will host John R. Allen, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, for a discussion on the progress and setbacks in one of the nation’s most challenging foreign policy problems.
Last summer, the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, grabbed the attention of the world when it seized Mosul in a lightning offensive. In response, the Obama administration assembled a coalition of more than 60 nations to confront ISIS. To halt further advances, the U.S.-led coalition is coordinating efforts to provide military training and assistance to partners on the ground, stem the flow of foreign fighters and financial resources to ISIS, counter its message, and deliver stabilization support to liberated communities.
As the coalition campaign to counter ISIS approaches its anniversary, please join CAP for a keynote address from Gen. Allen and a high-level panel discussion to take stock of the campaign to date. CAP will also release the latest in its ongoing series of reports on ISIS.
