Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress will host Delaware Gov. Jack Markell (D) to discuss the future of the movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality in the face of a hostile federal and state legislative landscape. Gov. Markel will speak on the larger role of governors across the nation to achieve comprehensive nondiscrimination protections at the state and local levels.
A panel featuring Charlotte, North Carolina, City Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield and Equality Texas’ Transgender Programs Coordinator Lou Weaver will discuss the political and legal challenges and opportunities ahead. CAP will release a new report about the key components of nondiscrimination and the empirical evidence for driving comprehensive change.
