Michael
Clark

Michael Clark is a research associate for China policy in the National Security and International Policy department at American Progress, where he works on diverse China-focused policy portfolios, including geopolitical/economic competitiveness, climate change, critical minerals, and technology. His work entails frequent travel to and engagement with the People’s Republic of China. He recently joined the Council on Foreign Relations’ Young Professionals cohort, through which he attends briefings, discussions, and networking events centered around international relations.

Prior to joining American Progress, Clark interned as a China analyst at the U.S. Department of State, worked as a cocktail bartender, and did freelance translation work. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chinese and French languages from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in international politics/China studies from Johns Hopkins University’s Hopkins-Nanjing Center in Nanjing, China. He speaks French (DALF C2) and Chinese (C1).
