Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Director of Technology Operations and Projects to work with the Information Technology Services team and the Enterprise Data subteam. The Director of Technology Operations and Projects will have cross-organizational project management responsibilities that interact along many lines of the organization, particularly the Development department and the Information Technology Services, Human Resources, and Finance teams. The director will conceive, prioritize, implement, manage, and complete projects that optimize daily operations, activities, and performance of the organization.

The Director of Technology Operations and Projects will be driven by American Progress’ mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action, with the aim of not only changing the conversation, but changing the country.

This leader will join a dynamic team of colleagues to assist in supporting American Progress’ five crosscutting priorities:

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Chief Information Officer in planning, organizing, and coordinating functions related to the technology operations of the organization.
  • Identify areas of improvement in the existing processes and propose and develop projects to implement those improvements.
  • Create and manage project budgets.
  • Analyze and resolve escalated project issues that have the potential to jeopardize the ability to meet deliverables.
  • Develop and implement complete project schedules to ensure that required dates are met.
  • Manage stakeholders to ensure that project deadlines are met.
  • Work with internal and external cross-functional partners on technology operations and internal client-facing programs, and assist in developing, delivering, and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Identify, assign, perform, and create tasks and deliverables to further project completion or to provide operational support to the Information Technology Services team, the Enterprise Data subteam, and the organization.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships throughout the organization as the liaison for Information Technology Services and Enterprise Data.
  • Document processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • At least seven years in an operations or support role is required.
  • Ability to work on various cross-functional subjects and workload organization, including tasks identification, workload evaluation, planning, and monitoring.
  • Prior exposure to 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) environments.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management experience, ideally with a PMP certification, is strongly preferred.
