The United States, China, and the Climate Crisis: Imperative for Action in the Context of Competition

Please join the Center for American Progress for the second installment of our China Policy Virtual Roundtable Series.

Please join the Center for American Progress on Tuesday, August 27, from 12:00 p.m. – 01:00 p.m. ET for the second installment of our China Policy Virtual Roundtable Series.

The world demands that the United States and China, the top historical emitters and the two largest economies, move with greater seriousness and urgency to tackle the climate crisis. CAP Senior Fellow Dave Rank will moderate a conversation with CAP Senior Vice President for National Security and International Policy Alan Yu and Director of the Georgetown School of Foreign Service’s Science, Technology and International Affairs Program Joanna Lewis on where and how the two sides can accelerate action in both competition and collaboration. This discussion will happen just as John Podesta, former president and founder of CAP and current senior adviser to the president for international climate policy, prepares to travel to China in early September to engage with Chinese officials on accelerating climate action with the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change conference (COP29) on the horizon.

Upcoming roundtables in this series will address technology competition and Taiwan policy, other focus areas from CAP’s report on a progressive, principled, pragmatic China policy.
