Farms and Families in Crisis: The Trump Administration’s Assault on America’s Food System

Please join the Center for American Progress for the next in a series of virtual events highlighting the impact that DOGE’s cuts are having on the lives of everyday Americans. This event will focus on how cuts to food pantries, Farm to School grants, and school lunches, as well as to USDA and FDA food safety oversight, put millions at risk of going hungry.

Safe, secure, and abundant food is essential to the economy and the quality of life Americans expect and children deserve. Programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Farm to School grants, and food inspection and safety standards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture have bolstered the abundance, availability, and quality of America’s food supply.

The Trump administration’s disastrous funding cuts to food programs across the country are putting America’s health and economy at risk.

Cuts to funding that schools and food banks rely on to provide fresh food from local farmers are already proving to be devastating to communities across the country, but they come as no surprise. During his first term, President Trump repeatedly attempted to gut funding for food assistance programs such as SNAP, which House Republicans in the current Congress are again looking for ways to dismantle during the reconciliation process. Further cuts to programs that keep food safe, accessible, and affordable for hungry kids and families will only serve to inflict more harm on the American economy and communities, leaving the most vulnerable Americans even more at risk during difficult times.

Please join the Center for American Progress for a discussion with farmers, food bank leaders, and food accessibility and affordability advocates to learn more about how the Trump administration’s funding cuts will affect farms and families across the country.
