This is the fifth video in the “State Voting Rights Acts: Explained” video series created by the Center for American Progress and the Legal Defense Fund. In this video, Susana Lorenzo-Giguere, former associate director of the democracy program at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Isabelle Muhlbauer, national advocacy manager of voting rights at LatinoJustice, break down the importance of language access in voting. More expansive language access provisions require election information to be provided in additional languages, allowing marginalized groups to access the ballot box in a fair, meaningful, and informed way. The inclusion of these provisions in state voting rights acts are essential because they help ensure every voter has the same opportunity to make their voice heard.
