Washington, D.C. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) unveiled a budget proposal that includes $22 billion to address climate, water, and wildfire issues—a move that demonstrates California’s continued leadership in solving the climate crisis. The budget proposed by Gov. Newsom makes impressive investments in climate action, cementing the state’s role as a leader in fighting global warming. After last year’s devastating heat wave and the impact of more wildfires, including the Dixie Fire in Northern California, Gov. Newsom and his administration are meeting the climate crisis head-on with the scope and scale of funding required. The historic budget announced today sets the tone for incorporating economic opportunity and equity for all in the rapid transition to a clean energy economy. It would make major investments in renewable energy tax credits, make electric vehicles more affordable for all Californians, and provide workforce training for industries of the future. California is boldly leading the way on climate. This is the kind of action Congress needs to take on a national scale.
