A New Understanding of How Quickly Natural Areas in the American West are Disappearing to Development

9:30 - 10:30 AM EDT

Lands in the American West are disappearing at an alarming rate. A first-of-its kind analysis of human impacts on lands in the American West, developed by the Center for American Progress and Conservation Science Partners, shows that the region lost an average of a football field worth of natural area to human development every two and a half minutes between 2001 and 2011.

Our findings, available at DisappearingWest.org, include an interactive map of land loss and stories from those who are affected by these changes. Join us for a briefing about where these losses are occurring and what the driving forces are.

Speakers include:
Matt Lee-Ashley, Senior Fellow and Director, Public Lands, Center for American Progress
David Theobald, PhD, Senior Scientist, Conservation Science Partners
