STATEMENT: CAP’s Danielle Baussan on the Great Work Champions of Change are Doing in the Climate Fight

Washington, D.C. — The White House is hosting an event today to honor 10 local leaders—whom they are calling Champions of Change—who are doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire low-income and underserved communities to prepare for, adapt to, and thrive in the face of climate change. Center for American Progress Managing Director of Energy Policy Danielle Baussan issued the following statement on the White House Champions of Change for Climate Equity.

Although extreme weather is often referred to as the great equalizer, the reality is that marginalized communities suffer a disproportionate amount of the economic, housing, and health impacts of extreme weather exacerbated by climate change. The Center for American Progress applauds the White House for recognizing these Champions of Change and their fight for climate, racial, and social justice in their communities. We congratulate the champions for their leadership and innovative approaches to reducing climate risks and enhancing the inclusivity of social and economic development in low-income communities and communities of color.
