Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Department of Justice dropped its criminal case against President Donald Trump’s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn. In response, Max Bergmann, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Michael Flynn has already pled guilty for lying to the FBI. He admitted he lied about his contacts with Russia. The U.S. Department of Justice does not dispute that he lied; it just believes that Donald Trump and his accomplices are above the law. This is effectively a backdoor pardon for Flynn and an unprecedented politicization of the Justice Department.
