Washington, D.C. — Last night, President Donald Trump used Truth Social to threaten a lawsuit against the Center for American Progress and a staffer, all because a CAP report showed his administration’s costly deployments of the National Guard had no measurable impact on reducing violent crime. In response, CAP President and CEO Neera Tanden issued the following statement:
The Center for American Progress stands firmly behind its research and its staff. When politicians can’t defend their failed policies with facts, they resort to intimidation. Trump is lashing out and threatening bogus lawsuits because he wants to silence independent research, waste taxpayer money on his failed agenda, and distract from the reality that his policies are hurting the American people. Core to our mission is telling the truth with evidence and data, and that mission is crucial during the Trump administration.
We’re going to keep delivering the data, exposing the president’s failed leadership, and fighting on behalf of the American people. We will not be intimidated, and we will not back down.
