Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Senior Writer and Analyst who will analyze data and draft polling memos and decks, presentations to elected officials and other key policy influencers, speeches, op-eds, daily message guidance for allies and partners, talking points, briefings, and other products for the president and CEO and other members of the Executive team. The Senior Writer and Analyst will also be responsible for staying up to date on American Progress’ research, policy, and political initiatives to most effectively communicate them in written materials and visual presentations. This job requires a strong background in analysis, along with experience as a writer, editor, and researcher, and the most qualified applicant will strive to communicate clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences across a variety of mediums.

Responsibilities:

  • Write, research, and edit products, including but not limited to polling memos, presentations, speeches, daily messaging guidance, op-eds, and briefings, including those for the president and CEO and other members of the Executive team.
  • Analyze polling data to discover trends and insights and help implement polling projects.
  • Work in close collaboration with American Progress’ Advocacy, Communications, External Affairs, and policy departments to understand and effectively communicate the organization’s policy and political research and priorities.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:     

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Experience manipulating data to identify and communicate insights.
  • Familiarity with polling and opinion research. Demonstrated experience in creating data visualizations and reports to effectively communicate findings.
  • At least four to five years of experience working on campaigns; in Congress, the federal executive branch, or in state and local government; or with high-level principals is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a high-visibility and fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and priorities on tight deadlines.
  • Strong political and communications judgment and message discipline.
  • Commitment to advancing American Progress’ mission.
