For the past two weeks, nationwide anti-government protests have swept Iran. Sparked by deepening economic hardship, the demonstrations represent the most serious challenge to the regime since the establishment of the Islamic Republic, and security forces have cracked down violently, killing hundreds of protestors by some estimates, arresting thousands, and imposing an internet blackout. In response, President Donald Trump has suggested the United States may intervene militarily, and the regime has threatened retaliation against U.S. interests.
Please join the Center for American Progress for a discussion that will explore the significance of the protests and assess the implications of potential U.S. responses.
Additional panelists to be announced.
