Washington, D.C. — Today, the White House delayed the expected unveiling of President Donald Trump’s new proposal on health care costs, even as millions of Americans prepare to see their premiums more than double in the coming year.
In response, Topher Spiro, senior fellow for Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
The White House’s rumored proposal is an admission that the administration will bear responsibility for Americans’ doubling premiums even as the president remains incapable of offering a serious solution.
Instead, the White House is floating policy ideas that would reduce the value of premium tax credits, raise costs for millions, and cause more than 1 million people to lose coverage.
This situation should have been resolved months ago. The clear path forward is a clean extension of the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits to stabilize the market and protect coverage for millions of Americans. The longer the president waits to grasp that concept, the closer Americans get to seeing their premiums double on his watch.
