Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed all 17 members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s panel of experts that recommend vaccine policy for the United States and announced he will be in charge of choosing the advisory panel’s new members. Jill Rosenthal, director of Public Health Policy at the Center for American Progress, shared the following statement:
With measles cases approaching a 30-year high in the United States, this is no time to undermine the very system that protects all of us from preventable disease. By sowing doubt about the rigorous scientific process that safeguards our vaccine system, RFK Jr. is playing politics to further his own agenda. This latest attack on public health threatens the well-being of us all and will cost lives.
