Restoring Social Trust in Democracy
Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, voters in Moldova participated in parliamentary elections. Damian Murphy, senior vice president of National Security and International Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement on the results of the elections:
The results of yesterday’s parliamentary elections are a win for democracy in Moldova and across Europe. This outcome delivers a blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his blatant campaign to manipulate the outcome. At a moment when authoritarian powers are working to weaken democracies everywhere, Moldova has shown that courageous citizens have the power to fight back and stand up for themselves.
