STATEMENT: Kevin DeGood on the Highway Trust Fund Projections

Washington, D.C. — Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx released a new projection showing that the Highway Account within the Highway Trust Fund will run out of money before the end of the fiscal year, with the Mass Transit Account fairing only slightly better. Kevin DeGood, Director of Infrastructure Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following reaction:

Allowing the Highway Trust Fund to go broke would cripple thousands of infrastructure projects, harm workers, and undermine our economic recovery. The time for half measures and patchwork solutions has passed. Congress must raise substantial revenue to maintain these critical programs, which provide strong middle-class jobs and a foundation for long-term national prosperity.
