STATEMENT: John Podesta on the Nomination of Sylvia Mathews Burwell as OMB Director

Washington, D.C. — With today’s nomination by President Barack Obama of Sylvia Mathews Burwell to be the director of the Office of Management and Budget, the Center for American Progress released the following statement by CAP Chair and former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta:

I applaud President Obama’s choice of Sylvia Mathews Burwell as Office of Management and Budget director with her government, business, and foundation experience. Sylvia brings substantial budget and management expertise to the post. At the White House, Treasury, and as deputy director of OMB, she was a key member of President Bill Clinton’s economic team that produced repeated budget surpluses in his second term. She earned the trust and admiration of bipartisan budget and appropriations leaders in Congress. As a former colleague and friend, I know that Sylvia has the policy chops and leadership experience needed to head OMB during this time of fiscal and political challenges.
