Restoring Social Trust in Democracy
Washington, D.C. – After state lawmakers in Indiana voted against a redistricting plan that would eliminate two Democratic-held congressional districts, Greta Bedekovics, associate director of Democracy Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Today, Indiana lawmakers stood up against President Donald Trump’s shameful threats and intimidation tactics. They voted in the best interests of Hoosiers and refused to back down in the face of Trump’s relentless assault on fair representation. While Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina lawmakers caved, these Indiana senators voted for fairness and were guided by conscience. Attempts to rig the 2026 midterms are not over, but Indiana today showed the country how to fight back. Lawmakers around the country should take note.
