Washington, D.C. — Today, the Starbucks workers’ union, Starbucks Workers United, announced that U.S. workers will go on strike tomorrow. Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
Starbucks Workers United has been bringing countless solutions to the table, yet it has been met with resistance and its calls on Starbucks to present a comprehensive compensation package have gone unanswered. This is not what investing in your workforce looks like in practice. Every worker deserves fair wages, benefits, and a voice on the job. It’s really that simple.
Starbucks has been all talk about supporting its workers, and union workers are calling their bluff and asking for the receipts. I fully support the workers’ actions to strike and am encouraged by their fight to drive forward change to ensure that corporations follow through on their promises to invest in workers, offer fair wages, and provide comprehensive benefits for all employees.
