Washington, D.C. — After reports that conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot during an appearance in Utah, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This horrendous act of violence is despicable and represents a blatant attack on our democratic values. Disagreement, even strong disagreement, is a vital part of a thriving democracy. Violence is not. It is incumbent on all of us to vehemently reject the rising tide of political violence at every level. The assailant must be swiftly prosecuted.
